My
British Basketball
Memories
Season 1994-1995
After leaving the Dominican Republic I arrived in England in December 1994
with my debut game being against the Sheffield Sharks. We finished this season
in 8th place. It wasn't a good season as far as the team was concerned, as
we didn't play up to our capabilities so being eliminated in the 1st round
of the playoffs was no big surprise -but it was a big disappointment. The
season ended and I was asked to return to the team for the following season
along with Nigel Lloyd as the teams' foreign players.

Season
1995-1996
This season would be different - many changes were made and the most important
change was bringing in Nick Nurse as the Coach. That year we finished in 3rd
position and the team really peaked towards the end of the season. We eventually
won the Wembly Championships by defeating the team that finished 2nd in the
league and also the league Champions, enroute to winning this teams 1st ever
Championship. I was awarded the MVP Championship award and was also named
Player of the Year 1995/96.
I learned more about Basketball in that season than in any other time in my
career. Playing alongside Nigel, I learned how to control a game, learned
how to play 'situation' basketball and learned how to really use the shot
clock and game clock. Playing for Nick and playing with Nigel made me not
only a better player but also, a smarter player.

Season
1996-1997
After playing in Germany for a few months I return to England to be reunited
with my old team. The team was much more talented than the team we had the
previous season but 2 things were lacking on this team - Chemistry and Character.
Subsequently, it made for an early playoff exit. After the season had ended
and during the teams 'Awards' dinner, I promised the fans that the next season
we would definately win the Championship and with the kind of fans that we
had, I knew that there was no way I could let them down.

Season 1998-1999
I moved from Birmingham
to play for Manchester and to be reunited with Coach Nick Nurse. Along with
myself, Manchester brought in other top players from other Engish teams.
The team was predicted to win every championship for the season. Although
we won a lot of games, we only managed to secure one title that season -
the Uniball Trophy. After struggling through the first round of the playoffs,
we were eliminated in the semi finals of the championship. That year I finished
3rd in the voting for League MVP,

Season
1997-1998
With my coach now gone to Belguim and the team hiring a 1st year rookie coach,
Nigel and I took on more of a leadership role. We became the teams' Assistant
Coaches. The team had its best season ever and although we finished with the
same record as the London Leopards, they won the league title as a result
of beating us 2 out of 3 games. With the playoffs coming and me constantly
being reminded of my promise for a Championship - the pressure was on.
In a thrilling Championship game we managed to secure a 3 point win. I was
awarded MVP of the 1997/98 Championship and was also the runner up for the
League MVP.
Season
1999-2000
With only 4 players remaining from last years team and no new players signed,
hopes for a good season had started to dwindle. When Coach Nurse told me of
the players that he had finally managed to sign I knew that this would be
a special year. The team brought in Travis Conlon
who is one of the toughest players that I have ever played with to run the
point, Phil Handy an extremely
athletic shooting guard with NBA experience and Roy
Hairston one of the best all around players that I have
ever played with.
As a team we fluctuated between 1st
and 2nd position in the league and along the way we managed to lose the National
Cup Final and....

also
the Uniball Trophy Final. With the pressure mounting and 2 titles up the grabs,
the team really took on an 'Us against the World' type mentality and steamrolled
its' way to the League Championship and also the Playoff 'Wembly' Championship.
This was the best team, both on the court and off the court, that I have played
on since playing in England. This season I won my second 'Player of the Year'
award and also set a Cup Final record for field goals made (16). It was also
the 3rd time I was named MVP of the Championship.

Season
2000-2001
During April 2000 I received my British Passport. On obtaining my British
passport, I became eligable to play for the England National Team. The experience
is great. I get the chance to play with players that I have only ever had
the chance of playing against. On April 28th, Roger Huggins became a member
of my current team, Hapoel Jerusalem. I feel that with Roger and I playing
together on a daily basis, this will also help us compliment each other more
whilst on the National team.
